Company Profile

In 1956 Cav. Luigi Patrizi revolutionised the frozen fish industry by introducing innovative techniques that lead to the foundation of Esca in 1968. Esca was the first Italian company to produce and pack frozen seafood products in trays for large-scale distribution and in 60 years has become an established leader in the Italian market for ready-made frozen seafood recipes.

The company, with its headquarters in Controguerra (TE), Via Piane Tronto 68, is still family-owned-and-operated. Throughout the years the company has rapidly developed, whether in expertise or size, producing high quality and innovative products and strengthening its presence in domestic and foreign markets.

Thanks to the company’s tireless resolve for innovation and research, the skin effect packaging system was introduced,  something that had never been used before in the frozen seafood sector. Subsequently, one of the greatest milestones in the company’s long history was the launch of the Condipresto line in 2001.

The very first frozen seafood medley to be introduced in the market. An innovative product that rapidly conquered the Italian consumer market and is now mostly sold for this product category.

Today, the company occupies a 30’500 m2 site, with 18’700 m2 of covered area and  11’000 storage pallets representing the total storage capacity.

The company is located in the industrial area of the beautiful Abbruzzo, a region in eastern central Italy, and proudly employs around 90 professionals whose dedication and passion has helped the company to develop and prosper.

Esca products (all gluten free) stand out for their unique ingredients and flavor-giving consumers all the natural vitality of fresh seafood, but with the convenience of frozen food.

Over the decades, thanks to the company’s consistent high quality, BRC-IFS higher grade certifications, and unbeatable production efficiency, Esca has gained the trust of all major supermarkets and discount stores in Italy.

Every year approximately 19’400’000 items are produced for supermarkets, hypermarkets, and discount stores, in both original packaging and private labels.

In recent years the company has started to address the topic of sustainability in a more extensive way.

The recent investment in increasing the in-house production of renewable energy will ensure the company to cover 35% of the yearly entry demand by 2020.

As sustainability and quality are the pillars of the company’s current and future direction, from 2017 Esca has used MSC and ASC certified fish and seafood in its products, in order to contribute to a better future for the world’s oceans.
